Environmental policy
The CPI Group is actively aware of its Corporate and Social Responsibility to its employees, customers and stakeholders. We believe that protecting the environment should be everybody’s business and thus, CPI Group has taken steps to actively pursue an environmental policy that goes beyond regulatory compliance and international environmental standards for the benefit of all.
The CPI Group is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations and to sustainable forestry and is thereby committed to undertake the following:
Operations -
Conduct all activities in compliance with all environmental legislation and regulations and other requirements.
Build partnerships, inside and outside the organisation, whose goals are to sustain and enhance the environment.
Actively explore, create and implement ways to prevent pollution and conserve natural resources.
· Pursue a waste minimisation plan to:
1. Reduce the amount of waste produced.
2. Increase the amount of wastage recycled.
3. Reduce the amount of wastage sent to landfill.
Encourage sustainable development to our employees, contractors, suppliers and the community, ensuring that this policy is communicated publicly and internally.
Continually set and review the Company’s objectives and targets in keeping with legal and other requirements and other significant aspects. We also commit to review the outcome, identify and implement improvements.
Establish appropriate training and education to fulfil the obligation and commitment outlined in this policy.
Sustainable Forestry and Chain of Custody -
· Develop a Green Purchasing Policy with all our existing suppliers to promote environmental quality, economic prosperity and social equity.
· Maintenance of, and continued improvement of Chain of Custody systems ensuring:
1. Environmental certification is not misused.
2. Validity of Chain of Custody claims relating to the source of wood and forest products.
3. Integrity, continuity and validity of supply chain audit trail systems.
· The CPI Group recognizes the authority of the Chain of Custody certifying bodies and as such recognizes:
1. The certification body is responsible for verifying the Chain of Custody system and the certification body controls and supervises the use of Chain of Custody certificates.
2. The certification body uses a two-tier system for breaches of the Chain of Custody system prior to undertaking punitive action. The breaches in order of severity are minor non-conformance and major non-conformance.
3. The authority of certification body to cancel the CPI Group Chain of Custody certificate where it has transparent and sufficient reasons to conclude that misuse has occurred.
The CPI Group takes on the responsibility to ensure that the framework for setting and reviewing this policy will be maintained and reviewed annually to meet its obligations for continual improvement of its objectives and targets.
