- N.C.R.
- Carbonless Paper: Paper coated with tiny chemical granules on the back(CB) which when pressed bust and create an image on a coating of top of the sheet below(CF). Invented by the National Cash Register Company (NCR).
- Negative
- In photography, films containing an image in which the values of the original are reversed so that the dark areas appear light a vice versa. (See positive).
- Newsprint
- Paper made mostly from ground wood pulp and small amounts of chemical pulp; used for printing newspapers.
- Nitrogen
- An element. A high nitrogen content in water, together with phosphorus and organic substances, can lead to increased biological activity in water known as eutrophication.
- Non Wood Fibre
- A chemical pulp of cellulose fibre derived from vegetable matter other than trees. Suitable materials used in papermaking include bagasse from sugar cane, hemp, cotton, bamboo, kenaf and esparto. Alternate fibres make up a very small percentage of the total fibre used.
- Non-impact printer
- An electronic device similar to a copier, laser or inkjet printer that creates images on a surface without contacting it.
- NOx
- A collective term for the nitrogen oxides formed during combustion. When precipitation occurs, they can contribute to the acidification of soil and water.
- NTOT Nitrogen
- Total amount of organic and inorganic nitrogen measured as Tot-N (nitrogen).
