- UCA
- Acronym for Under Colour Addition.
- UCR
- Acronym for Under Colour Removal - In process multi-colour printing, colour separation films are reduced in colour in neutral areas where all three colours overprint and the black film is increased an equivalent amount in these areas. This improves trapping and can reduce make ready and ink costs.
- Undercut
- In printing presses, the difference between the radius of the cylinder bearers and the cylinder body, to allow for plate (or blanket) and packing thickness.
- Unit
- In multi-colour presses, refers to the combination of inking plate and impression operations to print each colour. A 4-colour press has 4 printing units each with its own inking, plate and impression functions.
- up
- In printing, two-up, three-up etc. refers to imposition of material to be printed on a larger size sheet to take advantage of full press capacity.
- UV ink
- Ink that is cured by UV radiation.
- UV varnish
- A coating that is cured by UV radiation giving a very hard durable finish in either very high gloss or matt.
